Dr. Barry L. McManus, founder of Global Traveler, is a renowned expert in business intelligence and risk management. He began his distinguished career in the CIA’s Clandestine Service, later becoming Vice President of Training and Education at Abraxas Corporation, and continued in an executive role after its acquisition by Cubic Global Defense until 2014. He went on to serve as Vice President of Global Operations at Patriot Group Global Inc., overseeing due diligence and investigative work worldwide. Dr. McManus stepped down from active management in 2017 but remains a senior consultant.

His foundational experience includes work with the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, specializing in complex criminal and vice investigations. While at the CIA, he honed advanced skills in deception detection, behavioral analysis, and interviewing techniques, contributing to counter-terrorism operations and protecting intelligence assets.

Dr. McManus was awarded the Career Intelligence Medal and has been recognized for his expertise in non-coercive interrogation and for training polygraph examiners and counterintelligence professionals. He has pioneered behavioral analysis methodologies aiding in the investigation of white-collar crime and commercial fraud.

Internationally, Dr. McManus has worked in over 140 countries. He earned his doctorate from George Mason University, attended Christ Church College at Oxford, and is a lifelong member of the Oxford Roundtable, lecturing at Harris Manchester at Oxford.

As a media consultant and author, he has contributed to CNN, News Nation, NPR Radio Lab, National Geographic Television, and TV One, as well as numerous publications on culture, psychological behavior, and terrorism.
